Galveston cruise shuttle service from Houston
Most Galveston cruises start with a drive, and for a family or group of friends that drive is part of the trip. A shuttle service by minibus or Sprinter van with a driver brings everyone from Houston to the pier together, with the bags handled once.
From Hobby or Bush Intercontinental to the island
Hobby is the closer airport, about 40 miles from the port and roughly 45 to 60 minutes away. George Bush Intercontinental is about 70 miles and around an hour and a half. If your group can choose, Hobby shortens the day. Either way, many groups fly in the day before, so a late flight does not put the sailing at risk.
When people arrive at both airports, two pickups usually work better than one vehicle crossing Houston to collect everyone.

Port permits, the gate and the toll tag
The Port of Galveston requires a port-approved permit for every ground transportation operator, and charter bus and shuttle bus each have their own permit category. The port area is gated, vehicles need an AVI/RFID toll tag, and the port assigns loading, staging and holding areas. We book operators who meet those rules, so the driver knows where to stop.
Know your terminal before the day
Galveston has four cruise terminals: 10, 16, 25 and 28. Of those, Terminal 16 only opened in November 2025, so if you have sailed from Galveston before, check your documents rather than assuming last trip's terminal. Share the terminal number when you book.
Coming home, the island is a fine place for lunch on the Strand before the drive back to Houston. Tell us in advance and the stop can be built into the return.
Questions
How long is the drive from Houston to the Galveston cruise terminals?
About 45 to 60 minutes from Hobby and around 1.5 hours from Bush Intercontinental, longer in heavy traffic.
Can any driver take us into the cruise terminal area?
No. The area is gated, and operators need a port permit and an AVI/RFID toll tag. We book operators who hold both.
Is a Sprinter van big enough for a family of ten with luggage?
It can be, depending on the wheelbase and number of large cases. Share the suitcase count and the operator will confirm or suggest a minibus.
