Washington, DC minibus rental and Sprinter vans with a driver
School groups, family reunions and delegations all end up at the same monuments. A Washington, DC minibus rental or a Sprinter van with a driver moves your group between them without anyone getting lost on the Metro.
Reagan National, Dulles or BWI
Reagan National is the short ride, about 5 miles and 10 to 20 minutes to the Capitol. Limo pickups are at Curbside 3 at Terminal 1, and at Curbside 2, Zones 1 to 4, on the Baggage Claim level of Terminal 2. With the cell phone lot shut for construction, time the pickup to your bags, not your landing.
Dulles is about 26 miles out. There, Doors 4 and 5 on the Arrivals level are where charter buses load, and the operator files the airport's Charter Bus Form 24 hours ahead, so late changes of vehicle are harder there. BWI is about 32 miles from downtown. If your group is split across airports, a Sprinter at each can beat one minibus shuttling between them.

National Mall days with a school group
On the Mall, buses may load and unload only where a zone is signed for drop-off or pickup. Most Park Service bus parking is along Ohio Drive SW, in West Potomac Park. The vehicle leaves once you are out, so pick a zone and a time for every stop and make sure each chaperone knows both.
Idling is limited to three minutes, or five at 32°F and below, so the bus won't be running and warm when you finish at the Lincoln Memorial on a January afternoon. Build the walk back to the zone into the schedule.

Arriving by train at Union Station
Charter vehicles cannot pick up in front of Union Station. Of the 32 spaces on the bus deck, only reserved ones are guaranteed, so send your train details and we'll set the meeting point with the operator.
Day trips to Mount Vernon, Annapolis and Gettysburg
Mount Vernon is under an hour away, and Annapolis and Baltimore's Inner Harbor are about an hour or a little more. A Gettysburg trip takes the whole day, with 2 to 2.5 hours on the road each way. Colonial Williamsburg, at three to four hours, suits an overnight better than a round trip.
Questions
Can the bus wait for us near the Smithsonian museums?
Not at the curb. Buses load only in signed zones on the Mall and park mainly on Ohio Drive SW, so plan set pickup times.
Do we need a reservation for bus parking at Union Station?
Only reserved spaces on the bus deck are guaranteed, so yes, if the vehicle needs to park there.
Is Reagan National or Dulles better for a school group?
Reagan National is far closer to the Mall. Dulles works well if the group stays in Northern Virginia or the flights are cheaper there.
