Group Transport

Miami minibus rental and Sprinter vans for cruise days and nights out

Groups come to Miami and Fort Lauderdale to board a ship, celebrate something or both. A Miami minibus rental or a Sprinter van with a driver covers the airport, the port and the night in between.

MIA or Fort Lauderdale, depending on your ship

Match the airport to the port where you can. MIA to PortMiami is about 7 to 9 miles. Port Everglades is about 2 miles from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, and no other U.S. seaport sits next to an international airport. Flying into the "wrong" one adds 26 miles or so each way.

MIA puts ground transportation outside the terminal on Level 1, and cruise buses there load at two doors: Door 1 of Concourse D and Door 33 of Concourse J. At FLL, pickups use designated curbside areas on the lower Arrivals level, and the curbs at GTA 2 and GTA 4 are closed until further notice, so check your terminal.

Sailing day at PortMiami and Port Everglades

Both ports control who drives in. At PortMiami, an operator must carry a GTS Go-Pass transponder and hold a port business permit. Bus services at Port Everglades must hold a Port Everglades Business Permit, and adults are asked for government photo ID at the entrance security checkpoints. Keep those IDs handy, not in the suitcases, until you are through.

Tell us the ship and terminal, not just the port. PortMiami alone has nine terminals, and a driver heading for the right one saves your group a walk with luggage.

Party bus rental for South Beach nights

For a pre-cruise birthday or a bachelorette weekend, a party bus or Sprinter limo keeps the group together between dinner in Brickell and the clubs of South Beach. Send the stops in order, and remember the driver cannot drink; rules on drinks for passengers are set by state law and the operator's policy.

Game days and day trips

Hard Rock Stadium is up in Miami Gardens and draws heavy traffic after Dolphins and Hurricanes games, so allow time for the return. For days out, Shark Valley in the Everglades and Key Largo are under two hours. Key West is four to five hours each way, a long day for any group and a stretch that tests a driver's legal hours, so consider an overnight.

Questions

Can the same vehicle take us from MIA to PortMiami?

Yes. It is a short run, and pre-arranged transfers are the simplest way to keep a group and its bags together.

Do we need ID in the vehicle at Port Everglades?

Every adult is asked for government photo ID at the port's security checkpoints, so keep it in hand rather than packed.

Is a Sprinter big enough for 12 cruise passengers?

Only with modest luggage. With a large case each, a minibus or midsize coach is the safer choice.
