PortMiami shuttle service for families and groups
Embarkation morning is happier when the whole group rolls up together. A private shuttle service to PortMiami by Sprinter van or minibus picks everyone up from the airport or hotel and delivers the group, bags and all, to the right terminal.
MIA is close; Fort Lauderdale takes longer
From Miami International to PortMiami is about 7 miles, or 15 to 30 minutes by road, while Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood is about 26 miles away and can take up to an hour. If your group is flying into both, two pickups usually beat one long loop.
Most cruise lines sell MIA-to-port transfers of their own. A private vehicle makes more sense when the group wants to leave together, stop at a hotel on the way, or travel on its own schedule.

Permits and transponders at the port
Any ground transport company working PortMiami must hold an active port business permit and be enrolled in the port's GTS Go-Pass transponder program. A USDOT/FMCSA MC number is also required for motorcoaches. The operators we book are already set up for all of this. Tell us your terminal letter so the driver goes straight to it. Royal Caribbean's Terminal G is under construction, so check your cruise documents for the terminal actually assigned.
Pre-cruise nights in South Beach or Brickell
Plenty of groups spend a night in Miami before sailing. A Sprinter van with a driver can collect everyone from a South Beach or Brickell hotel on embarkation morning and load the bags at the curb. Book the pickup a little earlier than feels necessary, because traffic into the port can build on busy sailing days, and a relaxed arrival is the best start to a cruise.
Questions
Is a private transfer worth it when the cruise line offers one?
For a group that wants to travel together, stop at a hotel, or leave on its own timing, often yes. For two travelers heading straight from MIA, the cruise line transfer may be simpler.
Can one Sprinter van take eight people and their luggage?
Often, but it depends on the wheelbase and the number of large cases. Tell us the suitcase count and the operator will confirm the right vehicle.
What changes the price of a PortMiami transfer?
The date, the pickup point, the distance, the vehicle size and any waiting time. No charge is made until you have accepted the quote.
