Group Transport

Sports team transportation for games, tournaments and away days

Whether it is a high school squad, a club side or a group of fans following the team, the bus is where the day starts and ends. Get the luggage and the timings right and everything else follows.

Kit bags and coolers decide the vehicle

Teams carry far more than people: kit bags, sticks, balls, coolers and medical cases. A 45-foot coach has roughly 440 to 460 cubic feet of under-floor luggage space, which is why a full team with gear usually belongs in a motorcoach even if the headcount would fit something smaller. A Sprinter works for a coaching staff or a small squad, with cargo space behind the last row, but a minibus has limited luggage room and fills up fast.

What the rules require

  • On-duty limits: 60 hours in 7 days or 70 hours in 8 days.
  • 45-ft coaches offer about 440-460 cu ft of under-floor luggage space.

Never ask the driver to make up time

FMCSA is clear on this: passengers should never press a driver to speed, or to claw back time lost earlier. If warm-ups start at a fixed hour, build the margin into the departure time, not the drive. The hours rules matter too: after 15 hours on duty a driver may not drive, and the weekly caps are 60 hours over 7 days or 70 over 8, so a tournament weekend with early starts and late finishes needs careful planning.

Stadiums have their own rules. Arlington's AT&T Stadium parks buses in one section of Lot 15, and each needs a bus pass. At Soldier Field in Chicago, buses drop off and pick up on Columbus Drive, north of Balbo.

Tournament weekends and long road trips

FMCSA points out that on longer trips, one driver may not be enough. If you are driving through the night after a late game, or covering a long multi-day tournament, tell us the whole schedule and the operator can plan relief drivers or rest stops that keep the day legal.

Questions

What size bus does a football team need?

Count players, coaches and gear. Most full squads with kit bags need a motorcoach for its under-floor space, even if a smaller bus has enough seats.

Our game runs late. Can the driver wait?

Yes, within hours-of-service limits. Waiting time affects the quote, and a very long day may need a second driver.

Can you book fan buses for an away game?

Yes. Send the stadium, kickoff time and headcount, and we will quote vehicles sized for the group.
